Colour Inspiration

Spring is making it's self known here in the Southern hemisphere, a few teasing beautiful days have been showing their faces in Ballarat and I'm feeling the vibrant vibe popping up in stores this season.
With neons making a comeback in the most amazing pastel-y kind of way I'm feeling inspired to paint!
I'm never one to stick like glue to a material as I mentioned in the Pop-up shop interview with me, instead I like to flit from medium to medium, using whatever feels right at the time. It's been several years since I had an extended stint at painting but the mood is upon me now.
Inspired by a glowing colour palette I'm softening it all down with some soft neural greys and loving it! Inspiring me lately is the colour palette of these beautiful driftwood sticks.

Trophy Envy

I have never been the sporting type, I figure you can't be good at everything right? I really enjoy being active and love to kayak, walk and rollerskate but I have never been any good at team sports. I'm not sure if Australians are just really big on awarding trophies compared to their British counterparts but every Aussie I know seems to have a huge collection of trophies gathering dust in their home or garage.

I have never owned one single trophy. Not one! I suggested to my boyfriend that he should get me one for being such a fantastic girlfriend and was openly laughed at, the cheeky devil. When a little beauty caught my eye whilst rummaging through a local antique shop I snapped it up. I am now declaring myself 1956 indoor bowls champion!

I have my eye on a few larger beauties on Etsy and am inspired to use some in my home.

Do you own lots of trophies? What were they for?

Overdyed rug inspiration

I have been shopping for a new rug for my living room for a little while, I'm finding it tricky to find the right rug because of two reasons. Firstly that I'm cheap, and secondly that I'm picky. This means that finding an inexpensive, awesome rug isn't proving easy.
Whilst searching online for interesting rugs I came across these overdyed rugs.

These highly saturated rugs are old Persian style rugs, bleached and then re-dyed in vibrant hues. A very clever way to sell a rug that has seen better days, and let me tell you, these babies aren't cheap.

Although I would like to think that my creative ways are purely inspired by the joy of making, truthfully however, my thrifty tendencies are a huge motivating factor in undertaking projects. I happen to have a Persian style rug of my own currently covering the floor of my living area and it's looking more than a little worse for wear (I originally found it in the barn at my old house).

I have been researching techniques on dying  rugs and it sounds like a tricky process. Both stripping the original colour and then re-dying sounds like an involved and fairly hit and miss project. The success of both steps hinge on the materials from which the rug is made and I have no idea if my carpet is a wool or synthetic blend But I'm feeling brave and have nothing to lose, I'm throwing caution to the wind, I'm entering uncharted territories and have begun developing my own technique instead!

Wish me luck, I'm going to need it!

Weekly inspiration

I LOVE making things and I'm sure you do too!
I have seen some really inspiring DIY tutorials lately. I thought I would share some of my latest faves with you... rainy days always make me feel like getting out the craft supplies!
Look at these great ideas for using plastic toys...
You can see this 'party animal' (I love a good pun!) cupcake topper tutorial on 'The Sweetest Occasion'.
These mounted toy heads on 'Please Note' would be awesome for hanging my jewellery from!
It's no secret I have a mega business-crush on the Red Velvet girls, and their blog 'A Beautiful Mess' has no shortage of inspiration and great tutorials. How cute are these shoes? I check in with them every day and there's always something new... those gals are the hardest working crafty chicks!
